There's nothing more awesome than waking up to a blanket of white, fluffy snow on a school day.
I remember those days fondly. I have three siblings, two of us are a year-and-a-half a part, and the other two are six years older than me. We'd all be in our rooms watching WFMZ, waiting for Pen Argyl Area School District to scroll by. I remember how annoying it was when you'd tune into the TV station and the "R" section would just be going by, so you'd have to wait through the entire list. But when our school name would scroll by with a message of delayed or closed, all four of us would yell out a "Woohoo!" and then fall back asleep until noon.
Unfortunately, when you go to or work at a college, those delays and closings are hard to come by. Luckily for Northampton Community College students, faculty and staff, they were granted a few extra hours of sleep today, February 3.
If you didn't think to check the local news stations or the NCC web site, there is a good chance you showed up for your 8 a.m. class, only to find you were the only one there. What a bummer!
To make sure you're never the lone student (or faculty/staff) again, there are several ways to see if NCC has a delayed opening or is closed.
1. Check out the local news stations such as WFMZ or WNEP. If you see other school's names scrolling by, there's a good chance your school is listed too!
2. Go to NCC's web site, www.northampton.edu. Under the "Quick Links" section, you'll see a link for "Weather Information." This is usually updated before 6 a.m.
3. Go to NCC's web site, www.northampton.edu, and sign up for NCC text alerts. Under the "Quick Links" section, you'll see a link for "NCC Alerts." You'll only receive urgent messages, such as emergencies or weather related closings or delays.
4. Call the 24-hour weather hotline at 610-861-4595.
5. Check your Facebook or Twitter page, especially if you're friends with Sam Spartan (Facebook) or NorthamptonComm (Twitter). Sam was up bright-and-early this morning to let students know via Facebook that NCC would be opening at 10 a.m. There was also a tweet sent out to all of NorthamptonComm's followers. Friend and follow them!
You should always check for delays or closings when there is enough bad weather for plow trucks to be out. Even if you don't think there could possibly be a delay or closing, check anyway!! You may be pleasantly surprised!
